Disneyland…Admission:An ARM AND A LEG..Lunch:The other arm and leg!

disneycastle.jpgI’ve had annual passes for several years to Disneyland and was recently considering getting one again. Why is it that Disneyland raises their prices every year to something even more astronomical than before? Why aren’t there very many perks once you buy the annual pass? Why does everything “Disney” cost almost double what similar items cost? One could say inflation, but it just doesn’t make sense. Charging $53 for children and $63 for Adults for one day admission to either California Adventure or Disneyland, but not both, seems a bit much. If you want to be able to go in and out of both parks that day you will pay a nominal fee of $73 for children and $83 for adults. Yet, if you want a season pass they are available for $239 for the Deluxe annual passport with 50 blockout dates throughout the year where you cannot attend, or the premium passport for $359 with no blockout dates. It gets better if you chose to buy the pass for $239 and want to attend the park on a blockout date you will pay an additional $20 for admittance. Parking is not included in any of these fares of course so you will need to pay a parking fee of $11. Then there’s lunch and soveniers. Who can afford all of this? With California Adventure and Disneyland park in Anaheim, California seeing over 13+ million visitors and 8.8 BILLION dollars in 2005 alone, it keeps me curious….where does all the money go? Why do they insist on charging so much? The rumors of Disney filing bankruptcy hold no weight in my book because I am one of those that pays their ridiculous prices to enjoy time out with my family. It seems to me that it is just another way for the corporate Disney to continue expansion on their GREED at the expense of families just looking to spend quality time together.

Casino Royale - James Bond

Powered by Gregarious (42)

Just saw the new Bond movie Casino Royale. And I have to admit I really enjoyed it. Now I’m quite a bond fan. I’ve got them all. And some people might not agree with me but I think Daniel Craig is a great new Bond. Yes I really liked Pierce Brosnan too. And Timothy Dalton was the worst Bond ever in my opinion. But enough about that. Onto what makes Casino Royale cool.

Casino Royale really takes you in deep since it is the first Bond movie (or I guess Ian Flemming Book to be precise). You get a lot of character building in this movie. You really see the depth of what created James Bond, his roots so to speak. Now if all your going for is the action. Then this Bond movie isn’t for you. This Bond flick really didn’t have as much explosions as some of the others, but it has one of the best foot chases I’ve ever seen. What really makes this movie shine though is the stunning job Craig does of showing Bonds character transition from Rookie new Double 0 agent to the groomed pedigree agent you have in such films as Gold Finger and others.

But I don’t want to spoil any of it. So lets leave it at. If your a true Bond fan this is a film you must see. Preferably in the theatre vs. just a torrent download. It just wouldn’t do it justice.

Degree or not degree that is the question…

Is a degree necessary in today’s career world? Throughout my childhood my parents occasionally mentioned the need for a degree, but without stressing a real importance. So, like many other teenagers, I just hung out with friends got the usual low paying dead end job and lived life. Until I finally realized, HEY! do you really want to be doing this for the rest of your life??? The answer was a resounding NO! So, I decided to figure out a way to be successful. I applied at several places that offered decent wages and benefits. Got turned down at all of them. I began to work at a company through a temp agency, but slowly began to relize that I needed to do something else because the “corporate ladder” had too many steps to climb from the bottom up. It was then I realized that I personally needed a degree. I took a few classes at the community college to get the ball rolling, but couldn’t decide what I wanted to major in. I finally narrowed it down to the two things I enjoy doing on a regular basis…computers or cooking. After learning how hard it was in the culinary industry and how pricey school was, I decided on the computer career. Still pricey for the school, but in high demand. Still the question remains, “why do we need a degree?” Why is it that a person who has learned their trade hands on for a good amount of time would be less desireable to an employer than someone fresh out of a trade school like ITT-Technical Institute or Devry? Is that a silent form of discrimination? Is this a plot for financial institutions and the government to get more $ in interest rates and student loans out of responsible citizens? Why should a person with 10 years hands on experience be excluded from a position because he is without a degree? It makes the University of Phoenix and other online colleges or “buy your degree online” businesses sound much better. Here’s a few links I found on the subject…what are your thoughts?
