The Illusionist

Months before its release to theaters the onslaught of trailers had me eagerly awaiting The Illusionist. It must not have been in the theaters very long because I missed it somehow and then low and behold it ends up released on video. After 7 visits to Blockbuster video I landed a copy of The Illusionist.

This was a great movie! Edward Norton was an unbelievably perfect for the role of Eisenheim (the illusionist). Eisenheim and Sophie (Jessica Biel) childhood friends reunite at one of Eisenheim’s performances. Little did she know she would become part of his greatest illusion ever. With death faking, framing, and living happily ever after as all part of this adventurous film its brought together in such a way to keep it mysterious and romantic the whole way through.

Definately a must see if you haven’t already. Another good magician movie is The Prestige with Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Michael Caine at you local Video Store February 20, 2007.

Devil wears Prada

This movie was such a cute movie. Ok, coming from a chick I guess that doesn’t mean much right? Well, my other half thought it was pretty good too. I like Ann Hathaway and Meryl Streep, but in this movie I don’t think Ann fit the role of “Andrea”. Ann was much too nice in her role than I thought “Andrea” should have been. Don’t get me wrong I love Ann Hathaway in Ella Enchanted and The Princess Diaries, but I think that the role of Andrea may have been better suited by a sirly Brittany Murphy maybe? Anyway Meril was as flawless as always playing the role of the “Devil”, however since all her devilish ways were attributed to her fierce demands and assertiveness of a successful career driven woman…I still am confused as to the naming of the movie.

Overall, a great chick flick with a few tricks and turns and is definately a keeper in your personal collection.

Children of Men

I don’t know where to begin. This movie was very strange. The movie is based on a world where women can for some UNEXPLAINED reason cannot have children. There are “terrorist” groups that supposedly support the cause of finding fertile women, yet bomb people and kill people for no apparent reason.  I had a hard time understanding this movie because they never told you why women couldn’t have children anymore and why when a woman from Fiji was impregnated she had to hide from everyone.   Then, they went into some kind of prison for immigrants to get to this boat that was going to give this pregnant woman freedom and it reminded me of saving private ryan.  Wall to wall combat graffiti on the walls tanks etc.  By the end of the movie you still didn’t know why women couldn’t have children except this woman from Fiji and all of the stars and main characters that you decided to watch the movie because of are dead.

They were onto a good idea with this movie, but went the WRONG way.  I think it was a waste of my time and money to go and see this one simply because none of it made sense.  The action parts were good, but it was mainly because of the story line that this movie turned out so poorly.
