Valentine’s Day 2007

Valentine’s Day may be a holiday created by the greeting card companies, but it’s a nice time to be romantic with your other half. Personally, I’ve never really enjoyed Valentine’s day until I met my hunny. Last year I took him to see Social Distortion live at the Anaheim House of Blues and we had a blast. We’ve since gotten married so it’s hard to decide what to get him now, but I guess I have it easy because he finds it impossible to decide what to do for me.

I’m not your average girl so I kind of make it hard on him I guess, but I’m just being me! I don’t like a lot of fancy jewelry and all the latest name brands. I don’t usually buy music or movies the day they release so no wonder he has it so hard huh! I’m a take me out to a rockin’ concert, night on the town, good time kinda girl.

He’s the kind that appreciates anything given to him. He doesn’t complain even if it’s the worst thing that can be given to a person. We know each others likes and dislikes, but what do you do when you get married? Does the gift giving change because your funds are now combined? Or do I continue doing things for him based of his personal preferences? Do the rules change once you get married?

Politics, Republicans, George W. Bush and the World Peace Keepers

My wife and and I are probably one of the few couples that are actually from different parties.  hehe.  I’m registered democrat and she’s registered Republican.  She loves George W. and the “great things he’s done for our country.” I think he’s a rich kid from a rich family that because his dad was president he gets to be president.  He has no experience, or has held no position besides govenor of texas which of course he once again had because his dad was a president as well.  So like I said.  He’s not my favorite.  But my wife would say he’s done a good job for America and we should consider the people in Iraq and the things we’ve done for them.

Well I can say I don’t exactly hold the same opinion.  I think he’s led us into a situation where we are under prepared as well as unwanted.  The people of Iraq agree that they don’t want us there.  They didn’t want our help in liberating them.  And they certainly don’t want us there as evidences by their killing off our troops faster then
a hooker turns tricks on a corner of Hollywood and Vine.  Now I don’t think you could have predicted we would be where we are now, but you know what.  We’re not complete idiots over here.  We did have the Iraq commision and they did provide us a plan that involved troop removal.  And they also did have a commitee that was in complete bipartisan agreement on the way forward in Iraq.  And it certainly didn’t include an increase in troops without any timetable.

Bottom line.  We’re making another huge mistake.  We’ll be seeing more American men coming home in bodybags.  And we’ve got no one else to make the decision besides our commander and chief.  And here’s his thoughts.  “I fully understand they could try to stop me,” Bush said of the Democrat-run Congress. “But I’ve made my decision, and we’re going forward.”  With a leader like that unwilling to consider other courses of action it reminds me of my 6 year old daughter who is certain her way is the best way.  Who cares that someone else has given their opinion it contradicts with her’s and she won’t hear any of it.

Stay tuned for her position probably coming in less then an hour.

Happy New Year 2007… Monterey, California / Pismo Beach, California

My family and I went to Northern California to ring in the New Year for 2007.  It was simply gorgeous.  For our first night we stayed in Seaside which is a 5 minute drive from Monterey.  Our hotel was right on the beach with the most spectacular view of Monterey Bay.  Shortly after check in we went on a 2 hour whale watching excursion.  We were told that they couldn’t guarantee we’d see any whales, but other tours had seen some and our chances were pretty good.

We boarded our vessel and started out.  We saw seals, otters, and sea lions, oh and did I mention Grey Whales?  Yes, indeed we saw what we had set out to see.  It was amazing we saw them spout out water about 8-10 feet in the air and then their slick bodies glided up out of the water and back down.  Their tales were huge.  We were lucky enough to see them for a good 45 minutes and during one of these surfacing we got to watch the most picturesque 3 tail combo as they submerged.

For dinner we topped it off with Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Monterey on cannery row.  They have a great selection of shrimp and other dishes for the non seafood eating type.  The atmosphere is wonderful.  It’s real cozy, a family kind of place where the service is fun.  To get a server to stop at your table you flip over a license plate that says “Stop Forrest Stop” and after they’ve served you, you flip the license plate back over to “Run Forrest Run”.  The décor is right out of the movie and by the end of the night your server will quiz you on the movie so you better watch a little Forrest Gump before you go there.

The next day we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey California.  I love that place!  This was my 3rd visit there and it amazes me every time.  This year they had their second Great White shark on display along with their sunfish.  They said the shark has grown and has maintained its health since captured out side of Malibu, California.  It’s cool to look at a great white that close, but still looking at him it looks like he’s still adjusting.  The sunfish is unbelievably cool.  A strange looking creature and mind boggling just the same.  When he swims by in the million gallon tank he glides like an eagle in the water.  Smooth, sleek, peaceful, when he comes up close it makes you wonder how fish of his size has the mouth the size of a baseball.  Really amazing.

After we left the aquarium we headed off to Pismo Beach….Read about Pismo Beach!
