The Illusionist

Months before its release to theaters the onslaught of trailers had me eagerly awaiting The Illusionist. It must not have been in the theaters very long because I missed it somehow and then low and behold it ends up released on video. After 7 visits to Blockbuster video I landed a copy of The Illusionist.

This was a great movie! Edward Norton was an unbelievably perfect for the role of Eisenheim (the illusionist). Eisenheim and Sophie (Jessica Biel) childhood friends reunite at one of Eisenheim’s performances. Little did she know she would become part of his greatest illusion ever. With death faking, framing, and living happily ever after as all part of this adventurous film its brought together in such a way to keep it mysterious and romantic the whole way through.

Definately a must see if you haven’t already. Another good magician movie is The Prestige with Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Michael Caine at you local Video Store February 20, 2007.

Devil wears Prada

This movie was such a cute movie. Ok, coming from a chick I guess that doesn’t mean much right? Well, my other half thought it was pretty good too. I like Ann Hathaway and Meryl Streep, but in this movie I don’t think Ann fit the role of “Andrea”. Ann was much too nice in her role than I thought “Andrea” should have been. Don’t get me wrong I love Ann Hathaway in Ella Enchanted and The Princess Diaries, but I think that the role of Andrea may have been better suited by a sirly Brittany Murphy maybe? Anyway Meril was as flawless as always playing the role of the “Devil”, however since all her devilish ways were attributed to her fierce demands and assertiveness of a successful career driven woman…I still am confused as to the naming of the movie.

Overall, a great chick flick with a few tricks and turns and is definately a keeper in your personal collection.

Children of Men

I don’t know where to begin. This movie was very strange. The movie is based on a world where women can for some UNEXPLAINED reason cannot have children. There are “terrorist” groups that supposedly support the cause of finding fertile women, yet bomb people and kill people for no apparent reason.  I had a hard time understanding this movie because they never told you why women couldn’t have children anymore and why when a woman from Fiji was impregnated she had to hide from everyone.   Then, they went into some kind of prison for immigrants to get to this boat that was going to give this pregnant woman freedom and it reminded me of saving private ryan.  Wall to wall combat graffiti on the walls tanks etc.  By the end of the movie you still didn’t know why women couldn’t have children except this woman from Fiji and all of the stars and main characters that you decided to watch the movie because of are dead.

They were onto a good idea with this movie, but went the WRONG way.  I think it was a waste of my time and money to go and see this one simply because none of it made sense.  The action parts were good, but it was mainly because of the story line that this movie turned out so poorly.

The Gilmore Girls

A few years ago I fell in love with a TV show called the Gilmore Girls. I guess because my personality is just as quirky as the main character Lorelai. Unfortunately, because of school I have been unable to keep up with the show.

Luckily my sweet husband bought me season 6. Ironic enough he knew I liked the show, but had no clue which season he was buying and as it turned out it was the last season that we had TIVO’d but lost it when the TIVO went haywire.

So cool now I’m able to keep up…I watch all but the very last episode when my husband and school buddy tell me dreadful news. Can Luke and Lorelai really be over??? I got sick to my stomach and told them not to tell me anything except I wanted to know if they were killing someone off of the show. They both said no which brought me some relief until I was told that Season 7 is Lorelai’s last signed season and the writer of the show is gone, which probably means…gilmore girls will end this season. Or if it continues will lose interest of the Gilmore Girls fanatics until it gets cancelled. None the less…I finished the last episode and the shock set in when I realized that my husband and school mate were right. It’s over with Luke and Lorelai. How could he leave her hanging that long? What’s the difference between Lorelai being a single mom with Rory and Luke learning he’s a Dad? Why can’t he just accept the fact that it’s possible to merge the families into one? Stupid Luke…and yet stupid Lorelai…how could you just jump in bed with your Ex if you really love Luke as much as you say you do?

Well season 7 has begun and I haven’t been watching…I’m scared…what will become of Luke, Lorelai, and Christopher? What about Rory and Logan who is in London for a year? Will this be the last season of a wonderful show? And if I start watching now I’ve already missed a few episodes that’ll ruin it all. I’ve got to find the episodes I’ve missed and catch up that’s the bottom line. The Gilmore Girls is too good of a show to just skip and then wait until it’s out on DVD. Anyone have the episodes I’ve missed? :( I’ll find them and until then I eagerly await the fate of the Gilmore Girls.

Charlottes Web

Ok I got to see Charlotte’s Web, and if you were a fan of the book by E. B. White you’d be happy with the movie. The movie follows the book almost to a “T”. Dakota Fanning played a great Fern. The graphics on Charlotte’s (Julia Roberts) web are amazing. The graphics make it look so real in all its intricacy. All the characters bring the audience into the movie so well you by the time it’s over you’ll be in tears. It’s a heart warming family oriented movie. Very well done and a must see. Happy viewing.

December 2006…the last chance for blockbusters of the year.

Some good movies have come out this year, but right now I can’t wait to see a few.  Why do they always make you wait until the end of the year for some of the good ones?

This weekend December 15th Eragon, Charlotte’s Web, and The Pursuit of Happyness come out.

eragon_13_large.jpgEragon is a movie about a dragon rider.  The trailers make the special effects and wardrobe look fantastic.  It gives you a Lord of the Rings feel just by watching the previews.

Charlotte’s Web…what can I say, they finally made a real life version of the child hood classic.

The Pursuit of Happyness is going to be a tear jerker.  The trailers already have me on the edge of my seat.  In the short clips I have seen they are able to put you in Will Smith’s character and feel the same emotions and entrapment that one might feel in that situation.  Definately going to be an empowering film.

Demeber 20th ROCKY BALBOA IS BACK!!!  Yeah he may be old, but he’s still looking pretty good and once Rocky always Rocky right?  It’ll be interesting to see him duke it out with guys half his age.

December 22nd I await Ben Stiller and Robin William’s comedy in “Night at the Museum”.  You can’t go wrong with these two.   If the trailers can make you laugh I’m sure these two will have us rolling on the floors by the time the show is done.

And Finally, December 29th “Pan’s Labyrinth”.  Another Fantasy movie.  The previews give it a Grimm Brothers feel to it and the costumes and effects are unimaginable!

 Can’t wait!

Casino Royale – James Bond

Just saw the new Bond movie Casino Royale. And I have to admit I really enjoyed it. Now I’m quite a bond fan. I’ve got them all. And some people might not agree with me but I think Daniel Craig is a great new Bond. Yes I really liked Pierce Brosnan too. And Timothy Dalton was the worst Bond ever in my opinion. But enough about that. Onto what makes Casino Royale cool.

Casino Royale really takes you in deep since it is the first Bond movie (or I guess Ian Flemming Book to be precise). You get a lot of character building in this movie. You really see the depth of what created James Bond, his roots so to speak. Now if all your going for is the action. Then this Bond movie isn’t for you. This Bond flick really didn’t have as much explosions as some of the others, but it has one of the best foot chases I’ve ever seen. What really makes this movie shine though is the stunning job Craig does of showing Bonds character transition from Rookie new Double 0 agent to the groomed pedigree agent you have in such films as Gold Finger and others.

But I don’t want to spoil any of it. So lets leave it at. If your a true Bond fan this is a film you must see. Preferably in the theatre vs. just a torrent download. It just wouldn’t do it justice.
