A triple dog dare…not just the movies anymore!
Jan 15th
Right out of a scene from the movie ‘A Christmas Story’ a online casino net10 year old boy in Hammond, Indiana took a dare seriously and got his tongue stuck to a metal light pole. The fourth grader took the dare to lick the pole in 10 degree temperatures. When the ambulance arrived, the boy yanked his tongue off the frozen pole. Emergency personnel told the boy’s mother how to care for his tongue. Ironically enough, the movie ‘A Christmas Story’, is based on a fictional city like Hammond, which is also the hometown of the author Jean Shepherd. Ouch!
140 year gets second chance at life!
Jan 10th
Lobster that is. In New York a 140 year old 20 pound lobster narrowly escaped someones hefty dinner plate. The lobster, caught off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, had been awaiting his doom in a tank at City Crab and Seafood Company. The lobster had been hanging out for 10 days awaiting a hungry customer to order him up for a whopping $27 per lb (appox $540), when someone spotted him and reported him to PETA to ask for his freedom.
Interestingly enough, City Crab and Seafood Company agreed to the release and this now famous lobster subsequently named “George” was released into the waters of Kennebunkport, Maine, where lobster trapping is illegal. So George is now a free…crustacean, well until next time.
Time Warner and Viacom go head to head
Dec 31st
I guess the corporate moguls can’t come to an agreement on cable programming so the customers will suffer. At 2 am I got a banner ad on my TV saying that we were losing 18 channels like Nickelodeon, Movie Land, and more as of 12:01 a.m. 1/1/09 and to call some toll free # to stop it. Having to do all my own legwork all the time to try to correct everyday issues with Time Warner’s horrible service, I wasn’t surprised that a new “fast one” was being pulled. After calling this # for a good half hour and getting busy signals I decided to call Time Warner directly. After speaking with the customer service rep, she swore they were unaware that something like this was going down until early this a.m. (yeah right).
Here’s the gist of it though. 2008 was the biggest year for cable TV viewers on their networks in their 29 years of biz. You can read the article here . So, they figure they’ll charge the crap out of cable TV providers for their programming because they’re such a hit now. Problem is Time Warner and other cable providers don’t want to pay what they are asking.
So who suffers? Well, the people that work hard everyday for a paycheck to pay the outrageous cable bills each month. We’re already paying just under $100 a month for unreliable high speed internet and basic cable with box (70 something channels). We just got a notice in the mail saying they were increasing our rates across the board. Then if you want to switch to Time Warners wonderful Free HDTV programming that’s a joke too because the “service is free”, but they don’t tell you that you have to pay more for the HDTV cable box. LOL When I asked the Time Warner representative on the phone about making adjustments to my monthly plan because we are losing 18 channels, she said, “well we’re still currently at the bargaining table with them. As soon as a final decision is made, we will make adjustments”. That has bad news written all over it, why do I feel another “increase” coming on???
Point is that the consumers are already getting ripped off enough. Cable TV is such a monopoly and the government allows it. If there was a bigger market for cable companies, our programming would certainly be cheaper. It’s no wonder why people choose Satellite TV! Happy New Year from all the corporate jerks!

If the theme park turns out anything like the movies, then it’s sure to be a fun time of exploration in the shoes of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando.
So, where do we make the reservations?

A Modern day Treasure hunt…Treasure found!!!
May 21st
A modern day treasure hunt may not be as bright for the hunter as they hoped. A Florida based treasure hunting company called, Odyssey Marine Exploration found a sunken treasure worth over $500 Million dollars off of the coast of Gibraltar. Spanish authorities are trying to determine if the treasure was taken from their waters or from a Spanish galleon, HMS Sussex that shipwrecked in 1694.
Spanish authorities are calling the find suspicious. According to current laws it is unlawful to take treasure from Spanish waters or a shipwrecked Spanish galleon. However, Odyssey Marine Exploration claims to have found the treasure in international waters and had nothing to do with the sunken ship the Sussex. Gibraltar’s government also said the find was not related to the Sussex either.
Now that it’s under investigation will the Spanish laws prevail?
My thought: While it is important to preserve history in this type of situation, I think that the treasure hunter should still receive a hefty finder’s fee at least. If this ship really did sink more than 3 centuries ago, why didn’t the Spanish try harder to find it?
It’s not right to allow them to search in nearby waters and when they find something try to take it away, just because the Spanish didn’t put enough effort into finding their sunken ship. Now the Spanish want to be the pirates!
Paris Hilton goes to jail June 5, 2007
May 8th
There’s finally goodness in the world. Paris Hilton is now going to the “big house” and we’re not talking home to her mansion either! After violating her probation a judge has sentenced her to 45 days in jail. If you ask me it’s not quite long enough, but it’s a start. I’m tired of seeing so many celebrities getting star treatment in court. They get slapped on the hand and ordered to pay fines or bails that are a drop in the bucket for them to pay and continue doing the same things over and over again.
Meanwhile, in the real world…normal citizens are doing real jail terms and fines that in most cases are extremely difficult for the individual to pay.
Why should they be exempt from the same laws we are all held to? Well this time the judicial system wised up to the Paris Hilton shenanigans. She will be serving 45 days in prison with only two clean pairs of underwear per week, (not G-Strings) one 5 minute shower a day, and none of her pretty sparkly makeup. That’s right NO VANITY ALLOWED!!!
When Paris’ mom heard the sentence she became unruly laughing and making outbursts like “You’re pathetic” and “May I have your autograph?” Later in interviews Kathy Hilton claimed that the sentence was pathetic and a waste of taxpayer $. She also was surprised that Paris would be sentenced to jail “after all the money we spent.”
Originally Paris was put on probation for reckless driving on Sept. 7, 2006 in Hollywood. The associated press reports that “Police said she appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. She had a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent, the level at which an adult driver is in violation of the law.” She was then sentenced to 36 months probation, an alcohol education program and $1,500 in fines.
Since then, there have been two other traffic stops and she’s failed to enroll in her mandated alcohol education program. On Jan. 15, 2007 Paris Hilton was pulled over by CHP and learned she was driving on a suspended license, and signed a document acknowledging the fact that she was NOT to drive. Then on Feb. 27, 2007 LA County Sheriffs pulled her over and charged her with violating her probation. The associated press also reports that, “Police said she was pulled over at about 11 p.m. after authorities saw the car speeding with its headlights off.”
Now if that doesn’t sound like a guilty person I don’t know what does! Hollywood expects to get away with everything because of their $ and their status, but it’s refreshing to see that they too at times have to adhere to the laws the rest of us are held so close by.
Now her fans have started a petition to Arnold Schwarzenegger to try to get her pardon. Come on people, time to get real. If you did what she did you’d be jailed a long time ago. She’s getting her due punishment for her actions. You do the crime you do the time!
The sad part is she’ll probably have it easy in jail. Even though she’ll be in a small cell without all of her $100 beauty products and $1000 clothes and ugly mutt, she’ll probably be separated from the regular population because of her status.
For the queen of mean in Hollywood, it’s Paris’ turn to get served…and she served herself! Note to Paris: On June 5, leave your cell phone at home!
Man’s leg ripped off during ATM robbery
Apr 11th
It’s 3 A.M. in Pomona, California. The streets are quiet not a sound in the air, until suddenly a loud CRASH!!! The window of a Pomona Ranch Market is shattered. Two men tie a chain around an ATM machine, drag it out of the store, and load it into their truck and drive away. A Perfect crime? Not really.
Officers followed Gregory Daniels a 48 year old man and his male accomplist to a residential area where the two tried to flee the scene. The friend managed to get away, but poor ol’ Daniel lied there in the street as his prosthetic leg was ripped off during the well planned “getaway”.
Yeah that’s right unbelievably stupid huh? Criminals these days don’t plan very well in my opinion. Needless to say Daniel and his dearly departed leg will be reunited to serve a lovely prison term. As for his friend, for now he’s a free man possibly planning his next flubbed crime.
Blogger released from prison after a 7 month sentence…
Apr 6th
Fellow blogger Josh Wolf is now a free man after serving 7 months in a Federal prison possibly the longest stay in history for his crime. A group called Anarchist Action held a march against Capitalism and War on July 8, 2005 in the streets of San Francisco where Josh attended and captured video footage to post on his website. Before Josh put it on his site he edited a few things out of the footage that he felt was unnecessary as anyone would before making it public. However, like most of us, he had no idea it would become such an issue with the government and serve a prison term for this crime.
The FBI found his video post which showed the aftermath of an officer being beaten and in the background marchers yell that a police car is on fire, but you don’t see it. You will also get a glimpse of a police officer pushing a marcher who is making his way across the street while yelling profanities at the marchers.
I do not claim to be a journalist nor an activist, just a person expressing my own views on a variety of topics. Here is my unbiased opinion about Josh’s ordeal and the march that he covered.
The point of a march is to express your feelings about a topic to the world. You’ll get some media coverage and may get the community thinking about the topic and their personal views on it. However, there is no need for the march to turn violent. That defeats your purpose and makes you look like hoodlums. Who would take you seriously then?
In the beginning of Josh’s video a boy and girl are commenting on the tragedy of loss of human life in the bombings of the public transportation system in London. The two say that, “any loss of human life is F*&@ed up”. Yet, later in that march a police officer gets his skull bashed in by unknown members of the march. When they spoke of their feelings on loss of human life they spoke for their group, which is also what the police beating accomplished for the organization.
I know when you feel strongly about something you feel everyone else is wrong. Top that off with some hard hitting music and an entourage of people and you are now feeling amped and invincible! This is what the video shows the marchers were feeling. A march to voice their opinions wouldn’t have been so terrible if they stayed on the sidewalk and showed much more restraint instead of disobeying law enforcement by marching in traffic on the street and vandalizing the city.
In the video you hear the crowd say that the down officer had been abusing his position of authority and were accusing him of police brutality, which is oh so common in California. However, beating an officer so badly his skull is fractured doesn’t seem warranted. We didn’t hear of any of the marchers being beaten to that extreme did we? Nor did we hear of vandalism to any of the marchers or their property right? Of course not, just arrests for disregarding the law and authorities trying to enforce it.
Since Josh’s sentence, the media has criticized his decision for withholding pieces of video in the name of journalism. Should a person with freedom of speech be imprisoned for his beliefs on video footage he took and posted on his site?
In his interview with Kevin Sites of Yahoo! News, he states that his reason for not giving the edited parts was because he didn’t want to reveal too much of the identities of the marchers for fear of being excluded from inside events in the future. He felt that they would not give him leads for any future reports. The thing that boggles me is that viewing the video he released you see a lot of the marchers masked and unmasked, enough so that you can figure out who they were if you were out to do so.
Josh also offered before he was sentenced that the judge review the “missing” pieces of video footage to verify his claim that the edited pieces didn’t contain any incriminating information to the case. The judge said it wasn’t his position to determine what becomes evidence and what does not so it was never released, that is, until now. Josh Wolf has now posted on his blog the original edited video, and the unedited version.
Why did Josh stop rolling the camera during certain times? Why didn’t he get police car burning or the actual beating of the officer? All questions that may never be answered completely to the complete satisfaction of the media, but the question here is not weather Josh is a journalist or an activist, but rather why he had to serve time.
He offered the review of the full video to the judge so he could see that it wasn’t any more incriminating than what they already had and he wasn’t directly involved in the chaos and criminal activity of the march on July 8,2005.
Think about this one…what if the video of the world trade center was edited before it was released just to show a pile of rubble after the collapse? And for whatever reason the videographer felt the entire footage shouldn’t be shown, and refused to give HIS tape that showed the plane descending from the sky into the first building and then into the second building, and he was sent to prison for that. Would that be right? Also, why is it ok for the government to have “classified” information that the general public can’t know weather it be video, pictures, or documents? It just doesn’t seem quite right does it?
After watching both videos, it is apparent to me that what was omitted from the original footage, what Josh fought so hard not to reveal and served time in prison for, was in no way more incriminating for any one person. It seems to me that it would have been much easier for him to release the extra footage and spare his criminal record since he ultimately released the full unedited version anyway just after serving his sentence in California Federal’s finest.
Trump shaves McMahon…is there going to be a rematch?
Apr 2nd
It is finished or is it??? Last night during Wrestle Mania Donald Trump triumphed over Vince McMahon ending the feud over whose head would get shaved. We all knew Donald wouldn’t shave off his hairpiece, but what I wasn’t sure of was if Vince would go bald or if there would be some sort of alternate ending.
Well folks, due to “copyrighting” we’re unable to bring you the live video footage, but we do have some awesome pictures for you. You get to see Donald shaving Vince’s head, but by the end of the shave Stone Cold Steve Austin takes down Donald Trump laying him out flat on his back in the ring. If you want to see all 20 pictures click the title to go to the page just about the trump vs. mcmahon smackdown and view all 20 photos.
