Subject:Farewell
Dear Co-Workers and Managers,
As many of you probably know, today is my last day. But before I leave, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what a great and distinct pleasure it has been to type “Today is my last day.”
For nearly as long as I’ve worked here, I’ve hoped that I might one day leave this company. And now that this dream has become a reality, please know that I could not have reached this goal without your unending lack of support. Words cannot express my gratitude for the words of gratitude you did not express.
I would especially like to thank all of my managers both past and present but with the exception of the wonderful Saroj Hariprashad: in an age where miscommunication is all too common, you consistently impressed and inspired me with the sheer magnitude of your misinformation, ignorance and intolerance for true talent. It takes a strong man to admit his mistake - it takes a stronger man to attribute his mistake to me.
Over the past seven years, you have taught me more than I could ever askfor and, in most cases, ever did ask for. I have been fortunate enough to work with some absolutely interchangeable supervisors on a wide variety of seemingly identical projects - an invaluable lesson in overcoming daily tedium in overcoming daily tedium in overcoming daily tedium.
Your demands were high and your patience short, but I take great solace knowing that my work was, as stated on my annual review, “meets expectation.” That is the type of praise that sends a man home happy after a 10 hour day, smiling his way through half a bottle of meets expectation scotch with a meets expectation cigar. Thanks Trish!
And to most of my peers: even though we barely acknowledged each other within these office walls, I hope that in the future, should we pass on the street, you will regard me the same way as I regard you: sans eye contact.
But to those few souls with whom I’ve actually interacted, here are my personalized notes of farewell:
To Philip Cress, I will not miss hearing you cry over absolutely nothing while laying blame on me and my coworkers. Your racial comments about Joe Cobbinah were truly offensive and I hope that one day you might gain the strength to apologize to him.
To Brenda Ashby whom is long gone, I hope you find a manager that treats you as poorly as you have treated us. I worked harder for you then any manager in my career and I regret every ounce of it. Watching you take credit for my work was truly demoralizing.
To Sylvia Keenan, you should learn how to keep your mouth shut sweet heart. Bad mouthing the innocent is a negative thing, especially when your talking about someone who knows your disgusting secrets. ; )
To Bob Malvin (Mr. Cronyism Jr), well, I wish you had more of a back bone. You threw me to the wolveswith that witch Brenda and I learned all too much from it. I still can’t believe that after following your instructions, I ended up getting written up, wow. Thanks for the experience buddy, lesson learned.
Don Merritt (Mr. Cronyism Sr), I’m happy that you were let go in the same manner that you have handed down to my dedicated coworkers. Hearing you on the phone last year brag about how great bonuses were going to be for you fellas in upper management because all of the lay offs made me nearly vomit. I never expected to see management benefit financially from the suffering of scores of people but then again, with this company’s rooted history in the slave trade it only makes sense.
To all of the executives of this company, Jamie Dimon and such. Despite working through countless managers that practiced unethical behavior, racism, sexism, jealousy and cronyism, I have benefited tremendously by working here and I truly thank you for that. There was once a time where hard work was rewarded and acknowledged, it’s a pity that all of our positive output now falls on deaf ears and passes blind eyes. My advice for you is to place yourself closer to the pulse of this company and enjoy the effort and dedication of us “faceless little people” more. There are many great people that are being over worked and mistreated but yet are still loyal not to those who abuse them but to the greater mission of providing excellent customer support. Find them and embrace them as they will help battle the cancerous plague that is ravishing the moral of this company.
So, in parting, if I could pass on any word of advice to the lower salary recipient (”because it’s good for the company”) in India or Tampa who will soon be filling my position, it would be to cherish this experience because a job opportunity like this comes along only once in a lifetime.
Meaning: if I had to work here again in this lifetime, I would sooner kill myself.
To those who I have held a great relationship with, I will miss beingyour co-worker and will cherish our history together. Please don’t bother responding as at this very moment I am most likely in my car doing 85 with the windows down listening to Biggie.
One!

]]>Now that you’ve seen the video Looking up Market at 1st in the Financial district of Downtown San Francisco.
As you can see it pretty much gives you the ability to put in a location and get a street level view of that location. Google is still very limited in their city coverage but from my exploring it looks like they’ve got all of the SF (San Francisco) area covered already, and are moving out from there. I’m sure they’ve probably got Mountain View and some of the other Google campus locations covered as well.
I’m waiting for this to come to an area where I live cause I think its really a neat feature, but I can only imagine some of the privacy concerns a tool like this would bring up. Imagine you happen to be out front of your house getting your newspaper in your robe as the Google mapping van comes by. It snaps your photo as its cruising by, and there you are in the Google street level view in your robe fetching your paper. You know your friends that are tech saavy are going to see you like that, because they don’t only google you, but they google map your address too. Imagine the talk at the parties now. Did you see Dave on Google Maps. He was wearing a pink frilly robe with ruffles and its on Google Maps for the world to see. Wait till your boss finds it and see how your perceived at work after that.
Here are a couple of my thoughts based on my briefly playing with Google Maps Street View this afternoon.
Although Surface isn’t yet being released for mass consumption it will be out Winter of 2007 they say, though Microsoft is notorious for having to push back release dates similar to their latest Vista OS launch.
Surface if adopted widely could change the way things in our world are done, imagine sitting in a restaurant and the table your eating at is actually a Surface computing device. You could preview the dessert menu, and place your order for a chocolate cheesecake. Or maybe you want to split the bill among 3 people. Just put each of your cards on the table and divide of the bill by dragging the items from the bill to the individual credit cards. Or maybe you’ve got digital photos of your recent trip to the beach and you want to load them onto your cellphone for a new desktop background. Well then set your camera and cell phone on the Surface and let Surface display a collage of all your images and then drag the images of your choosing to your cell.
Surface could really revolutionize the way that we all interact with technology in the future and I for one can’t wait to get one of these as a new coffee table at the house. Imagine how much fun Christmas at our house would be if we had this in the living room.
Below is a video of a longer and in-depth technology showcase of the Microsoft Surface in action while presenting it to the press.
]]>Once we got there it became rather disappointing. Two of their rooms with the coolest animals, The African Mammal room, and the North American Mammals were only partially viewable. They had ½ of each room blocked off for Asian Heritage celebration.
In the North American room we were only able to view up close about 4 animals while we enjoyed headaches of drums pounding amplified by 100 from the enclosed wooden room. In the African Mammal room we were able to view about 6 of the animals because they had loud music and dancing occupying the other 2/3 of the room.
The mineral room was pretty cool. My daughter kept looking at all the “green” gems and minerals and saying it was Kryptonite.
All I could do is laugh. It was the cutest thing that she was searching out all of the Kryptonite in the room. Most of the interactive computer screens in the mineral room were not functioning, so that was a let down for my daughter the button pusher.
We made our way to one of the dinosaur rooms. It was actually mostly cats, rhinos, and horse skeletons from millions and millions of years ago. They main dinosaur hall along with the Rotunda and Native American Cultures were closed for renovation.
When I asked an employee there they told me that the discovery room where the kids get all their hands on and get to look at live animals like snakes and fish were in the Rotunda and closed for renovation. After leaving there I found out that the discovery center was actually relocated to the basement and it was opened for child exploration. BUMMER!!!
The thing that ended up being most impressive to my daughter and me was the Night at the Museum exhibit. In this exhibit they have several costumes, wax figures, and props from the movie. Like the shrunk hummer that the cowboy (Owen Wilson) drive through central park. They also had the bone Ben Stiller used to play fetch with the T-Rex and his “instruction sheets” for taking care of the museum after closing.
Although, the museum was still enjoyable for both of us it was simultaneously disappointing. When you go to the museum you want to see it in its entirety. Explore history and see things you don’t get to see everyday. In retrospect, the only thing we were prepared for was an Asian celebration at the museum. It did not disclose the closing of exhibits nor renovation. I guess sometimes maybe a phone call before you go is better than relying on a website to be current.
So now we’ll revisit once the renovation is complete and I’m sure the experience will be much more enjoyable when we go.
]]>And for those of you that want to check the video here it is.
]]>Alright now go out there, have fun, and don’t get in trouble.
]]>I’m so excited it just makes me want to write about anything because I’m having so much fun with the new platform.
Alright well thats the end of my praising for WordPress 2.2. I’ll get back to work now.
]]>I got the Sears circular in the Sunday, May 13th newspaper. In there I found an awesome deal for a Hitachi 51F59 51″ rear projection TV for $599.99, with no interest financing for 18 months on purchases over $399. On Tuesday I printed out the ad from their website to take down to the store with me since my wife had the print ad. I didn’t have time to go down there Tuesday and decided I would do it the next day. When I went back to their site to look for a surround sound system I found that they had pulled that TV off of their website.
I went down to the store and asked about the TV and they said they had one floor model and one open box return in the back. The sales rep said I could purchase either one of them if I was interested, but they didn’t have any more new in box and the distribution center were out of stock.
After seeing the TV I really liked it, but I usually don’t buy floor models and returned merchandise. The sales representative said that he would sell me a Magnavox with the same specs for the same sale price, but he wanted to check with his manager. After a few minutes he came back and said that the returned TV had been sent back to the manufacturer already and that his manager wouldn’t allow him to sell the Magnavox for that price. I then asked for a rain check and was told that they don’t give rain checks.
I left the store and filled my wife in and discussed the possibility of buying the floor model. I explained to her that it was in mint condition and placed on a high shelf in the store where people haven’t touched it. She agreed that it might be a good idea to buy it, but wanted to check a few other local stores to see if they had any new ones in stock. She called 3 other stores with all of them saying they were out and that the distribution center was out and they were backordered.
She then called me and told me that she would go to the Sears I went to and would buy the floor model if she thought it was in mint condition too. When she got there the sales rep (same one that I dealt with before), told her that he couldn’t sell the floor model because the TV’s were on backorder with the manufacturer and when they came in they would be selling them again using that same TV as the floor model. He also told her that when the new ones come in she couldn’t buy it for that price because they would be for sale at the standard $999.99 price. She then asked them if she could get a rain check to purchase a TV when the new ones came in and the sales rep told her no they don’t do rain checks.
After coming home we both decided to call customer service and have them check inventory within a 65 mile radius and called 6 of the stores that supposedly had them in stock. Well, to our amusement NOBODY had them in stock! We finally gave up on calling, but found on their website a rain check policy. It states that they issue rain checks on all of their items for advertised prices, as long as the item wasn’t being discontinued. So why did the sales guy tell us they don’t do rain checks when the item we were after was backordered?
Looking around on the web, you can still see the Hitachi 51F59 offered on Google by Sears, but it’s unavailable on the Sears site once you click through a violation of the Google Base terms which state an item is required to show the price as well as be available for purchase online.
My question is this, why print out millions of ads insert them in newspapers for millions to read and not be able to follow through for your customers only 3 days after the ad began. How are all the stores and distribution center out of stock 4 days before the advertised ad expires? It seems like false advertising and unfair to consumers to say the least. Sears customer service is falling right in line with the worst of them (BEST BUY). And why do we get a different explanation in the store about their rain check policy then we seem to find online at their store? I can’t imagine Sears is going to win a lot of repeat business when their employees don’t follow their company policies. I don’t know for sure about my wife, but I know for sure that this whole thing has really left a bad taste in my mouth about Sears and the way that they handled the situation.
I’m also sending a letter to Sears corporate and including the link to this post explaining how frustrating this whole situation was. I mean why couldn’t they just offer me the rain check like their website says? I’ll update this post with any new news.

]]>Meanwhile, in the real worldnormal citizens are doing real jail terms and fines that in most cases are extremely difficult for the individual to pay.
Why should they be exempt from the same laws we are all held to? Well this time the judicial system wised up to the Paris Hilton shenanigans. She will be serving 45 days in prison with only two clean pairs of underwear per week, (not G-Strings) one 5 minute shower a day, and none of her pretty sparkly makeup. Thats right NO VANITY ALLOWED!!!
When Paris mom heard the sentence she became unruly laughing and making outbursts like Youre pathetic and May I have your autograph? Later in interviews Kathy Hilton claimed that the sentence was pathetic and a waste of taxpayer $. She also was surprised that Paris would be sentenced to jail after all the money we spent.
Originally Paris was put on probation for reckless driving on Sept. 7, 2006 in Hollywood. The associated press reports that Police said she appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. She had a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent, the level at which an adult driver is in violation of the law. She was then sentenced to 36 months probation, an alcohol education program and $1,500 in fines.
Since then, there have been two other traffic stops and shes failed to enroll in her mandated alcohol education program. On Jan. 15, 2007 Paris Hilton was pulled over by CHP and learned she was driving on a suspended license, and signed a document acknowledging the fact that she was NOT to drive. Then on Feb. 27, 2007 LA County Sheriffs pulled her over and charged her with violating her probation. The associated press also reports that, Police said she was pulled over at about 11 p.m. after authorities saw the car speeding with its headlights off.
Now if that doesnt sound like a guilty person I dont know what does! Hollywood expects to get away with everything because of their $ and their status, but its refreshing to see that they too at times have to adhere to the laws the rest of us are held so close by.
Now her fans have started a petition to Arnold Schwarzenegger to try to get her pardon. Come on people, time to get real. If you did what she did youd be jailed a long time ago. Shes getting her due punishment for her actions. You do the crime you do the time!
The sad part is shell probably have it easy in jail. Even though shell be in a small cell without all of her $100 beauty products and $1000 clothes and ugly mutt, shell probably be separated from the regular population because of her status.
For the queen of mean in Hollywood, its Paris turn to get servedand she served herself! Note to Paris: On June 5, leave your cell phone at home!
]]>Officers followed Gregory Daniels a 48 year old man and his male accomplist to a residential area where the two tried to flee the scene. The friend managed to get away, but poor ol Daniel lied there in the street as his prosthetic leg was ripped off during the well planned getaway.
Yeah thats right unbelievably stupid huh? Criminals these days dont plan very well in my opinion. Needless to say Daniel and his dearly departed leg will be reunited to serve a lovely prison term. As for his friend, for now hes a free man possibly planning his next flubbed crime.
]]>The FBI found his video post which showed the aftermath of an officer being beaten and in the background marchers yell that a police car is on fire, but you dont see it. You will also get a glimpse of a police officer pushing a marcher who is making his way across the street while yelling profanities at the marchers.
I do not claim to be a journalist nor an activist, just a person expressing my own views on a variety of topics. Here is my unbiased opinion about Joshs ordeal and the march that he covered.
The point of a march is to express your feelings about a topic to the world. Youll get some media coverage and may get the community thinking about the topic and their personal views on it. However, there is no need for the march to turn violent. That defeats your purpose and makes you look like hoodlums. Who would take you seriously then?
In the beginning of Joshs video a boy and girl are commenting on the tragedy of loss of human life in the bombings of the public transportation system in London. The two say that, any loss of human life is F*&@ed up. Yet, later in that march a police officer gets his skull bashed in by unknown members of the march. When they spoke of their feelings on loss of human life they spoke for their group, which is also what the police beating accomplished for the organization.
I know when you feel strongly about something you feel everyone else is wrong. Top that off with some hard hitting music and an entourage of people and you are now feeling amped and invincible! This is what the video shows the marchers were feeling. A march to voice their opinions wouldnt have been so terrible if they stayed on the sidewalk and showed much more restraint instead of disobeying law enforcement by marching in traffic on the street and vandalizing the city.
In the video you hear the crowd say that the down officer had been abusing his position of authority and were accusing him of police brutality, which is oh so common in California. However, beating an officer so badly his skull is fractured doesnt seem warranted. We didnt hear of any of the marchers being beaten to that extreme did we? Nor did we hear of vandalism to any of the marchers or their property right? Of course not, just arrests for disregarding the law and authorities trying to enforce it.
Since Joshs sentence, the media has criticized his decision for withholding pieces of video in the name of journalism. Should a person with freedom of speech be imprisoned for his beliefs on video footage he took and posted on his site?
In his interview with Kevin Sites of Yahoo! News, he states that his reason for not giving the edited parts was because he didnt want to reveal too much of the identities of the marchers for fear of being excluded from inside events in the future. He felt that they would not give him leads for any future reports. The thing that boggles me is that viewing the video he released you see a lot of the marchers masked and unmasked, enough so that you can figure out who they were if you were out to do so.
Josh also offered before he was sentenced that the judge review the missing pieces of video footage to verify his claim that the edited pieces didnt contain any incriminating information to the case. The judge said it wasnt his position to determine what becomes evidence and what does not so it was never released, that is, until now. Josh Wolf has now posted on his blog the original edited video, and the unedited version.
Why did Josh stop rolling the camera during certain times? Why didnt he get police car burning or the actual beating of the officer? All questions that may never be answered completely to the complete satisfaction of the media, but the question here is not weather Josh is a journalist or an activist, but rather why he had to serve time.
He offered the review of the full video to the judge so he could see that it wasnt any more incriminating than what they already had and he wasnt directly involved in the chaos and criminal activity of the march on July 8,2005.
Think about this onewhat if the video of the world trade center was edited before it was released just to show a pile of rubble after the collapse? And for whatever reason the videographer felt the entire footage shouldnt be shown, and refused to give HIS tape that showed the plane descending from the sky into the first building and then into the second building, and he was sent to prison for that. Would that be right? Also, why is it ok for the government to have classified information that the general public cant know weather it be video, pictures, or documents? It just doesnt seem quite right does it?
After watching both videos, it is apparent to me that what was omitted from the original footage, what Josh fought so hard not to reveal and served time in prison for, was in no way more incriminating for any one person. It seems to me that it would have been much easier for him to release the extra footage and spare his criminal record since he ultimately released the full unedited version anyway just after serving his sentence in California Federals finest.

Animal welfare organizations have documented cases of mass whale strandings and deaths around the world that they say are associated with sonar blasts thought to disorient marine mammals and sometimes cause bleeding from the eyes and ears.
In January of this year the Pentagon exempted the Navy from a law protecting whales so they could continue using sonar for their training. The Navy is now trying to withhold information regarding their non-combat sonar usage because of its TOP SECRET nature of this information. The Navy has exercised the state secrets privilege to avoid plaintiffs request to reveal the inside information.
Should the Navy be allowed to kill innocent creatures of the sea to further US intelligence and National security by routine training with sonar? Or should the US become more vulnerable to security breaches because they aren’t allowed to continue their training for fear of losing marine life during training?
One thing is certain, human life and marine life are equally precious. Is it too much to wonder if a compromise can be made to aid in the perservation of both?
If you’re a fan of one of the following then do I have news for you: Donald Trump, Vince McMahon, WW Entertainment (formerly the WWF World Wrestling Federation), shaved heads, and smacking down. They are all coming together for Wrestlemania 2007.
In a battle of the Billionaires Donald Trump and Vince McMahon have challenged each other to a wrestle off! They both agreed that if their wrestler lost Wrestlemania they would shave their heads. Article here
Last night it heated up when Donald Trump called Vince McMahon back into the ring solo to discuss edited pictures Vince had made showing Donald Trump bald. At first Vince hesitated, as an image of Vince appeared on the screen with his head shaved bald he eventually crawled back in the ring just to get the smack down of a lifetime by Donald Trump himself! Yes, that’s right Donald Trump slammed Vince McMahon on top of the table that was in the ring and Vince fell back over a chair and landed flat on his back smacking his head to the mat.
I’m not a big WWE watcher myself, but man this one is intriguing! I don’t know about you, but I want to see those two go head to head in a cage match! Wonder what’ll happen next?
]]>Most people know that its always good to have some sort of anti virus running on their computers along with a firewall to help ward off the evil spirits of spy ware and viruses, but today programmers are so on top of their game they make it extremely difficult to remove them.
PC WORLD Magazine, a really great magazine that even non-computer geeks can appreciate, wrote an article giving the simple steps anyone can follow to resuscitate their PCs from viruses or spy ware. You can read the article here.
Food for thought-With all the viruses and spy ware out there are all their creators just malicious with nothing better to do? OR are Symantec, McAfee, Microsoft, and other big names, in on the scheme and paying the spy ware programmers to continue making them to generate more revenue for the above mentioned big names to find patches and other new and improved top of the line security programs they can charge you for?
]]>The proposal of the forever stamp works like this; if you bought a forever stamp and the rate changes, you would be able to use that forever stamp on first class mail and they will honor it at the current rate so you dont have to buy 1 or 2 cent stamps to make up the difference. Good idea? Possibly, but the joke is that its only with the forever stamp. If you bought other stamps before the increase you still have to buy the 1 or 2 cent stamps. So youd have to buy ONLY forever stamps if you want to have your stamps honored at current rate, and probably in bulk.
What about the breast cancer stamps and others that a portion goes toward raising funds? Why shouldnt those be honored? It seems to me that just because the rate increases, they should honor all outdated stamps regardless. You buy first class stamps to get a letter from A to B expecting that service to be performed once you place that stamp on the envelope. Postmaster General John E. Potter says the Postal Service is not immune to the cost pressures affecting every household and business in America.
For example, each penny increase in the price of a gallon of gasoline costs the post office $8 million, and the post office cannot simply add a fuel surcharge to its rates.
Yet, they have fewer implicated costs than a normal business. Such as taxes and insurance for their fleet of mail trucks. Those alone are MAJOR expenses that the USPS is exempt from whereas, a normal business is not.
The fact is that the United States Post Office is one of the biggest Monopolies in America. They let very little competition in because they want the revenue. Are they afraid that if there was competition that we would have a cheaper alternate? Fewer mistakes? Less mail arriving looking like it was in the midst of an illegal dog fight? Dont know the exact reasoning behind it all is. In the past I had thought the price of postage was somewhat reasonable, but to see that they are now charging for EVERYTHING and the extras you add on to the first class letter even more expensive is becoming absurd. And thats not all folks look at what other rates theyre hiking right along with it. I wonder… is it just me that thinks the USPS is the Donald Trump of the postal tycoon biz?
I cant take it anymore!! I wasnt going to write a blog with my thoughts on the recent Britney Spears, but with all the stupid jokes like Hey did you hear Britney went skiing this weekend? Yeah, she was spotted from a mile away on Mount Baldy, I just couldnt resist any longer.
Ive never been a fan of Britney. From her innocent days of the Mickey Mouseketeers, to her innocent look when she entered the pop world, to her slut battle with Christina Aguilera, to now a lame impression of Demi Moore playing G.I. Jane.
Its gotta be hard being a star with the paparazzi following you everywhere you go, but shes caused all her drama. Now shes going through this sick of men stage and wondering why the Exs Justin Timberlake and Kevin Federline want to share their intimate details. She does things for attention and she gets that attention, but now that things are down for her she wants it all to be hush hush, except lets go out and shave our head and get a tattoo and exploit ourself all over again.
She needs help, but dropping out of rehab that she supposedly didnt go to doesnt help the situation. She needs to stick with it. Personally, coming from someone who again hasnt been a fan of Brit, I would give her much more credit if she grew up and handled her responsibilities like the rest of us are expected to. Just because you have money doesnt mean you should make a mockery of yourself and your motherhood. You need to look at life and what you have and make the most of it in the most dignified way possible. Read more here.
Shes a mom now. Not a single teeny bopper. Weather or not shell get her groove back, shed have a better image respecting herself and being a good mom to the two children shes had. She needs to realize that things are different now and that she wont be that Toxic Brittany everyones used to and that theres nothing wrong with creating a new more mature image for the future. With her former friend/employee saying that shes embarrassed of what Britney become, its obvious to an average person that Britney needs change.
After all, when her kids grow up will they be more proud of a new Britney? Or a head shaving, tattooed, girl whos longing for a pastime she cannot retrieve. Come on Brit R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
]]>After a few days of getting bids and interviewing artists we decided on our perfect musicians. Ted Nichelson, a harpist who knows his stuff! Hes attained a Doctorate, Masters, and Bachelors in his field. Seeming well qualified he was hired. For the reception we decided on a newcomer to Gigmasters. The Richman Jazz Ensemble had very little for us to go off of, just one picture but great prices. We asked him to send us a sample of some sort and they did. The demo CD was great and we hired them.
For our first time booking live entertainment we couldnt have picked better. The harpist was wonderful we didnt get to enjoy him as much as I wanted to during the service because apparently when you get married you tune a lot of things out when youre that nervous giving away your life to the person you love. However, the music was just as beautiful on our wedding video of the ceremony. The Jazz band was great too! Everyone raved about the music for hire and it was a great opportunity to expose the artists for future gigs.
For us, being on a budget we found picking a newbie to the professional industry of playing events proved useful. It was a win win for both. We got an awesome deal for our $, plus we gave the artists an exposure for prospective clientele. Finding Gigmasters not only helped us save money, but gave us a great outlet of personal preferences for our Wedding entertainment.
